Professor Martin Bradley was until very recently Chief Nursing Officer for Northern Ireland.
He trained as a general nurse, mental health nurse and nurse tutor. After a clinical career in London and Belfast, he worked in education for 9 years before becoming Director of Nurse Education at Belfast Northern College of Nursing. Martin gained management experience as Chief Nurse and Director of Healthcare of a health and social services board, and Director of the Royal College of Nursing in Northern Ireland.
After a previous role as a nursing officer in the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Martin returned to the Department in 2005 as Chief Nursing Officer. Prior to his retirement, he set in motion a comprehensive review of district nursing in Northern Ireland, setting out a vision of the specialty as the experts at the heart of nursing in the home. He has recently been appointed by the Irish Minister of Health to chair a Review of the Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery Degree Programmes in the Republic of Ireland.
Ann Rowe is the Implementation Lead for the Family Nurse Partnership programme at the Department of Health in England. She trained as a nurse and a health visitor, and also holds a degree in sociology and a Masters in medical science. After a clinical career nursing in London and health visiting in Nottingham, she moved into professional development and research. Seconded to the Department of Health in in 2006, she was nurse advisor to the long term conditions team, before moving on to work independently. In this role she helped PCTs, health authorities, universities and the Department with education and service reviews to improve care. Since 2008, she has led the implementation of the very successful Family Nurse Partnership programme, which is helping hundreds of vulnerable young families become the best parents they can be.
