Nursing Number One
In 2008 the QNI launched the Nursing No.1 Campaign.
The campaign aims to encourage nurses in primary care to pay as much attention to their own health as they do to that of their patients.
It followed a survey which showed that around half of community nurses did not keep track of their alcohol consumption or exercise to recommended levels, and around one third did not know their body mass index (BMI) – in spite of advising patients on these issues in their daily work.
The campaign is unique in that it emphasizes fitness for the individual’s sake, rather than putting pressure on nurses to be role models to patients.
