Money Management
In April 2007, the QNI launched “Money Management: a QNI Resource for Community Nurses”, a free CD Rom developed in response to the significant increase in personal debt-related enquiries from current nurses.
It explains in plain language what community nurses need to know about financial planning, whether as students, as newly qualified nurses or approaching retirement and where to go for further advice.
The CD is broken down into sections with information on the following subjects:
- National Insurance Contributions
- NHS Pensions
- Student Loans
- State pensions
- Statutory Sick Pay
- Early Retirement
- Working for Yourself
- State Benefits
- Private Pensions
- NHS Injury Benefit Scheme
- Debt avoidance and debt management
- Information on financial assistance for community nurses from the QNI
A number of organisations were involved in the development of the CD, including the Financial Services Authority, the National Debtline, the NHS Pensions Agency and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Money Management has been very well reviewed by a number of senior nursing and government health officials and has featured on BBC2’s Working Lunch programme. Last year it also featured on the cover of Primary Health Care and the Nursing Standard and was distributed to many subscribers of the journal registered as community nurses.
We have very limited copies remaining of Money Management, so please contact Deborah Hinds here to check availability.
