Substance Misuse Management in General Practice (SMMGP)

Substance Misuse Management in General Practice is a membership organisation for primary care (and other) practitioners who work in the treatment of people who use drugs and alcohol. Their aim is to promote the provision of effective care for people who use alcohol and drugs and to support the training and education of practitioners. Membership of SMMGP is free and open to all (not just GPs!).

SMMGP's popular website - www.smmgp.org.uk  – is an invaluable resource and is the leading, most used clinical site in this field in the UK. Increasingly, the site is used by pharmacists, nurses and patients and is a vibrant arena for the exchange of information between the various professions. There are many lively discussions on the online discussion forums (a major resource for professionals) – as putting the word ‘homeless’ in the search function on the forums reveals: http://tinyurl.com/homeless-discuss.

SMMGP's core business includes the publication twice yearly of the popular clinical newsletter Network (available in downloadable format on the website); regular clinical and policy updates for their membership and arranging a national primary care development conference annually - whilst the project management team continually considers new initiatives and diverse projects with which to enhance our service to members. For regular bite-sized updates, follow SMMGP on Twitter.
