2010 QN workshops

'Communications' - July 2010.

Speakers included:

  • Kathryn Godfrey - Practice Editor of Nursing Times – provide advice about submitting for publication
  • David Chernick - Independent Consultant – talk about the differences between good and bad, inspiring and boring, joyful and daunting presentations.
  • Jo Poole - The Dress Doctor – talk about the language of clothes including what not to wear in front of the camera.
  • Rachel Agnew - Branding and Marketing Consultant and TV Presenter – provided advice on how to manage an audience.

'Finance and Business in Nursing' - November 2010

Speakers included: Mo Girach, Business Strategist and Special Advisor to NHS Alliance and Associate to Kings Fund, talking about the changes to the structure and function of the NHS, and the challenges and opportunities this offers nurses; and Kath Lancaster, an Independent Nurse Consultant, giving an overview on writing a business plan. There were also presentations from three nurses: Mary Warrilow, Jane Gray and Celia Suppiah, about the challenges of setting up and running their own social enterprise, and taking an enterprise still in the planning stage through to an established social enterprise running for over two years.  Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive:

'Good to share, discuss ideas with like minded positive people.'

'Too often nowadays our ideas are 'squashed' by managers saying this is not your role!!!'

'I know more with regards to both social enterprise and business in nursing.'
