Influencing Policy
As part of our support to community nurses, the QNI works to
influence Government policies on primary care, nursing, and
related issues such as services for homeless people and reducing
health inequalities.
We do this by contributing to policy events and meetings,
responding to national consultations, providing examples and
information to policy-makers, and acting on national issues
arising from local projects.
We are also committed to increasing the influence of front-line
nurses on policy. Our series of QNI Briefings provide
policy-related information in clear summary form for busy
professionals, and our electronic forum for community nurses gives
all nurses the opportunity to contribute to important debates.
Community Nurse
Forum
The Forum enables interested
community nurses to register electronically to contribute by email
to debates on key community nursing topics. As we want to promote
thoughtful, iterative discussion, and to identify clear themes and
views that can be fed in to our policy work, we will be operating
the Forum through email, rather than as an ad hoc message board.
Questions will be circulated to members, and a summary of
responses will be posted on the website for members to review, and
for other nurses to see. Further rounds of responses, to a
dedicated email address, will be used to refine the summary into a
consensus view – or views – from the Forum.
