The Queen's Nursing Institute Celebrates 125 Years

In 2012 we are celebrating 125 years since the foundation of the charity in 1887.

A programme of special events is planned to commemorate this historic milestone, and also to look to the future of community nursing.

Key dates are:

8 March - International Women's Day
The QNI celebrates the role that women played in the creation of district nursing and the foundation of the QNI.

13 March - University of the Third Age Shared Learning Project
The QNI opens its doors to a group of researchers who are undertaking a project on the charity's historic collection of nurses' badges.

28 March - Launch of the NGS Yellow Book
The QNI celebrates is connection with the National Gardens Scheme at the launch of its 2012 Yellow Book with a display of historic and commemorative items.

April - Launch of the QNI's official 125th Anniversary publication; a showcase of 125 years of nursing heritage.

23 April - QNI Awards Ceremony
Central London, by invitation only. We will celebrate the achievements of community nurses. An opportunity to buy anniversary merchandise.

14 May - RCN Congress
RCN History of Nursing Society talk will feature the portrayal of nurses over the years.

22 May - Wellcome Library Reception
An evening reception at the Wellcome Library will celebrate our anniversary and showcase items from the QNI archive, most of which is kept at the Wellcome Institute.

30 May - Florence Shore: Life and Death of a Queen's Nurse
QNI Director Rosemary Cook will give a talk at Kings College, London, about this nurse and her book on the subject.

4 July - London and South East History of Nursing Society
Rosemary Cook will give a talk about her book about Florence Shore.

8 July - London 10k Run
We are looking for 125 runners to raise funds for the QNI. For more information please click here.

4 August - Claydon Estate Summer Fete, Buckinghamshire 
The QNI is one of the beneficiary charities at this fun day out for the family. For more information please click here.

15 October - Healthcare at Home Conference

26 November - City of London Choir Fundraising Concert
The City of London Choir has nominated the QNI as its beneficiary charity for this concert, to be held at the Barbican in London. The QNI will be selling tickets to the event, which will help us raise vital funds.
