 In 2010 the QNI and NHS West Midlands are working together to deliver the first regional Fund for Innovation programme.

Listed below are the projects that are currently taking place. More information and project reports will be added in due course.

1. Stop that shake, babies break
Project team: Janine McKnight, Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner
Alison Mennell, RGN, RM.
Project A project to raise awareness of the dangers of shaken baby syndrome targeting young people aged 14-19 through the use of creative interactive resources.

Location: South Staffs PCT

2. Community IV therapy Service
Project team: Tapiwa Mtemachani, Nurse caseload Coordinator
Angela Starkey Palliative Care Lead
Project To develop and implement an IV antibiotic therapy service for people at home reducing the need for hospital admissions.

Location: North Staffs PCT

3. Transition together
Project team: Kathie Drinan, Case Manager for Health Transition
Carrie James, Case Manager for Health Transition, Paediatric Nurse
Project To support Young People with complex physical impairments through the transition from children’s to adult health services, through the use of a tailored website resource

Location: NHS Walsall Community Health

4. Interactive Behavioural and Sensory Dysfunction Clinic
Project team: Ellen Ellis, Behavioural Nurse Therapist
Jessica Edensor Occupational therapist
Laura Graham Occupational therapist
Project To develop an interactive clinic in the community to provide assessment and intervention for adults with learning disabilities presenting with severe behavioural problems associated with sensory dysfunction.

Location: South Staffs & Shropshire Foundation NHS Trust

5. Developing and Implementing Nurse Led Enuresis Service in Shropshire
Project team: Angela Scull, School Nurse
Project This project will provide a needs led service to enhance the care of children and young people with primary nocturnal enuresis through the development and implementation of a nurse led enuresis clinic.

Location: Shropshire County PCT

6. Title Give your baby the BREAST start in life
Project team: Narinder Kular, Nurse Consultant in Public Health
Jewant Singh Infant Feeding Coordinator

Project The aim of this project is to increase the breast feeding initiation rates to 70% in the most deprived wards and deliver an increase in breastfeeding duration at 6-8 weeks. Also to address current inequalities that exist in terms of access to provision of ‘care closer to home’ and to achieve World Class Commissioning Target set for breast feeding.

Location: NHS Birmingham East & North

7. Nurse led community based asthma and allergy clinic for children and young people
Project team: Viv Marsh Paediatric Asthma Nurse Specialist
Project This project will pilot a nurse led community based clinic for children and young people with asthma and allergy, that will provide a holistic service to meet their needs in relation to their asthma and related allergy based conditions such as eczema and seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. A one-stop shop approach for children with allergy.

Location: Dudley PCT

8. ‘SAVE IT’ Days
Project team: Jane Waller Sister in charge
Rebecca Marsden, Eye Clinic Liaison Officer
Project This project aims to develop an eyecare pathway which achieves an increase in the access, uptake and positive outcomes for rehabilitation and support services for those with a visual impairment.
