London 10k Run 2011

A massive thank you to all runners who ran the British 10k London run for the QNI yesterday in the heat!

A record 20 runners ran or walked the race for us, raising thousands of pounds for our 'Right Nurse, Right Skills' campaign. They joined 25,000 other runners on the day, most of whom were also running for charity.

The runners included nursing students, an IT specialist, Queen's Nurses and their partners, a former Olympian cyclist and a QNI staff member. Their running experience ranged from seasoned marathon runners to novice 10k walkers.

QNI runner, Louise Porterfield, said, 'It was a lovely day and for once so was the weather! It was really nice to see so many people running for a good cause.'

Katrine Kiertzner, another QNI runner, added, 'This was my second 10k for the QNI, another hot one, but tremendous support made it almost enjoyable! Right Nurse, Right Skills covers running as well, obviously! It was good to get the QNI logo out there for people to see, and ask what we do.'

This year, all of the funds raised will go towards supporting our campaign, 'Right Nurse, Right Skills'. This vital campaign is to ensure that patients get the right care in their own homes.

Rosemary Cook CBE, Director of the QNI says, 'Patients in their own homes are some of the most vulnerable in society. Their care may suffer if the nurses or health care assistants who visit them are too inexperienced or unprepared. The real danger is that this decline in care will be invisible as it happens behind closed doors. The funding raised by our runners is vital to make our campaign effective and to bring about change.'
