Dame Sarah was a trustee of the QNI from 1995-2007, being vice-chair of Council from 1998-2003. She was made a Fellow of QNI in 2000.

Sarah retired in 2012 after a career that started in nursing, but which has focused on health visiting since 1980. She joined the academic staff of King’s College London in 1992 and was appointed Professor of Community Practice Development five years later. In 2013, she completed a large programme of research to support the government’s ‘Health Visitor Implementation Plan.’

Sarah was created a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2013, for services to health visiting. Since retiring, she has become a founding trustee of the Institute of Health Visiting.
