Michael Cooper was a trustee from 2003 until 2021 and served as Vice-Chair until 2013.
After National Service in the RAF, university in the UK and post-graduate studies in the United States, he joined Shell International, working in West Africa, The Netherlands and Libya before studying for an MBA in Switzerland. He was with an Anglo-French shipping company for 13 years, becoming Managing Director, before moving to Burmah Castrol PLC where, as a Main Board Director, he was responsible for the Group’s shipping and oil and gas exploration and production interests.
In the 1990s he fulfilled an ambition to work in the voluntary sector, spending 6 years as Chief Executive of Diabetes UK. He is a trustee of two other charities, a school governor, a Conservator of Ashdown Forest and spent 9 years as a Non-Executive Director of East Sussex, Brighton & Hove Health Authority.
Michael served as a member of the QNI’s Finance and General Purposes Committee for many years.
