Vari Drennan undertook an integrated degree, registered nurse and health visiting course between St. Thomas’s Hospital London and Southampton University.

She worked as a health visitor in inner London before moving into community nursing research, professional development and then senior NHS management posts. She was the Director of the Primary Care Nursing Research Unit at University College London (2005-7) before her appointment as Professor of Health Care & Policy Research at Kingston University &St. George’s University.

She has published widely and her research has focused on community and primary care nurse workforce development issues, health and social care of older adults, nurse prescribing, and the interface between health care and the criminal justice system. She was honoured with a MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2016 for services to health policy research, development and nursing
